Science Progress, a publication of the nonprofit think tank Center for American Progress, ran a story earlier this fall that provides an excellent and comprehensive look at the role controlled burns can and should play in managing our forests. It also includes a host of links to informative articles and Web sites.
The Science Progress piece was written by Steve Woodruff, the Northern Rockies deputy director for Western Progress, a nonpartisan regional policy institute dedicated to advancing progressive policy solutions for the Rocky Mountain West.
Definitely check out these links - they're filled with useful and interesting information. We're at the stage where we should be thinking critically about the most effective ways to utilize the ecological benefits of fire as well as protect homes.
